TEBIAT (Tourism, Economics, Scientific Research and Promotion Center) has been active since 1982 under the support of Istanbul University, Faculty of Economics’ origin lecturers who have always been important for Turkish political and economical life.
TEBIAT began its activities within publication sector, which was not fulfilled professionally at that time, by publishing BAZAAR International. This magazine was published bi-monthly and included both Turkish and English articles about the economical developments in Turkey as well as the whole world. Because it was send to many institutions abroad periodically and free of charge, BAZAAR INTERNATIONAL had a great promotion potential and advantage. However, its publication was discontinued because of a vast number of its imitations.
Since its establishment, TEBIAT has been organizing scientific meetings and organizations suitable for its establishing purpose about local administrations, education, residence, tourism, agriculture, industry, labor life, health and other sectors, as well as economics and scientific researches. These meetings; where public and private , directly or indirectly, all the sides come together for sharing and producing ideas have been enlightening the Turkish economic and political life for the last 25 years.
When TEBIAT was established, tourism facilities in our country were used for only residence. In such a period of time, TEBIAT introduced our country to the Congress Tourism concept and organized the first congress in the Ball Hall of a well known hotel. By organizing seminars and congresses one after another, the foundation became a leader in congress tourism in Turkey.
In addition to these, TEBIAT also introduced the Turkish Economy to another concept: Trade Fairs. These activities initiated to new investments within this sector in Turkey.
TEBIAT also led a way to private higher level education in the early 90’s by establishing the Private Administration Education Institution. This education activity would be considered as a beginning period for private universities in our country.
Although TEBIAT is a private institution, it has been serving as a leader at every subject it handles. With a foundation understanding, TEBIAT has been sending the outputs and foresights of the seminars and congresses to the related people in the sectors. From this perspective, TEBIAT continues its activities with high social benefits and as a multi-sided Civil Society Organization, despite of its private statue.
